Jean, what I have gathered so far points to Robert H. Callen
dying in GA. I believe Elizabeth may have remarried George McClain.
Robert and Elizabeth were living in Gasden Co. FL between 1825-1830.
I have the orbituary of his brother Ross Callen, which states a brother
died and he and wife Elizabeth Foster raised some of the brother's
orphans. I think my Dorcas Callen b. 1829 FL m. Lawson Killough is his
daughter and one of the children reared by Ross. Ross remained in
Mecklenburg, NC until around 1831, when he moved his family to Butts Co.,
GA. In 1838, Ross moved to Butler Co., AL where he lived until 1886 when
he went with his grandsons to Texas. The rest of his family remained in
Lowndes and Butler Co. In 1850, Robert H. Callen Jr. is living with Ross
and Elizabeth in Lowndes Co. he is 15 b. in FL. Also reared by Ross,
John C. Callen, I believe another brother, and Aaron Callen also a
brother. A lot of researchers have Robert H. Callen belonging to William
b. 1172, but I believe he belonged to John C. and Agness Ross Kerr Callen.
Some also have John C. Callen b. 1825 belonging to Ross Callen. But the
orbituary written by one of his daughters plainly states that he had 4
girls and helped rear his brothers children. If any of this sounds like
something you are interested in please e-mail me-I have more. Some is
speculation--but what I have gathered points in this direction. Most of
the above family is buried in Lowndes and Butler Co cemeteries. Brenda

Ross came to Butler Co., about 1831 from Butts Co., GA where in 1850 we still find John C.and Aaron, Dorcas' brothers living with perhaps their mother, Elizabeth Wallace Callen McLain (who remarried). The Glass Family Bible records: Robert H. Callan Sr. departed this life October the 11th 1834. Another entry reads Robert H. Callen jr was born December the 16th 1834- I believe this entry along with the obit of Ross Callen puts Robert H. Callen connected to the Ross Callen family and most likely the father of our Dorcas Callen.

An orbituary that appeared in the Greenville paper, July, 1888. Signed MFK probably daughter Margaret Farr Callen Glass Kirkpatrick.

Ross Callen was born in North Carolina and died in Texas, nearly 88 years old. He was married to Miss Elizabeth W. Foster in Mecklenburg, NC in 1821 where he remained until 1831. He moved with his wife and 4 daughters to Butts Co., GA and lived working at his trade of blacksmith until 1838. While living in Georgia one of his daughters died, also one of his brothers died leaving a large family largely dependent upon him. His generous heart took four of his brother's orphans and raised them as his own. In 1838, he moved his family to Butler Co., AL and they lived here quite a number of years. Once again death claimed his youngest daughter. The 2 surviving daughters married and were left widows with small children. On the 25th of December, 1873, the loving wife and fond old mother was taken from those on earth. Mr. and Mrs. Callen joined the Presbyterian Church, Rocky Creek, NC. The children were baptized and came into full communion. In 1855 or 56, Mr. Callen was ordained ruling elder in Sandy Ridge Church, Lowndes County and remained until 1886, when he went with his grandsons RC and WF Glass, whom he had raised from infancy, to Texas. He has 2 children, 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and a large number of friends to mourn his death.

This appears to substantiate Ross and Elizabeth had 4 girls, no sons are mentioned. John C. Callen is still living and there would be more than 11 grandchildren if John belonged to Ross.

20. NANCY4 KIRKPATRICK (ELIZABETH3 CALLEN, JOHN2, WILLIAM1) was born 1816 in Mecklenburg, North Carolina, and died Bef. 1850 in Lowndes Co., AL. She married JAMES H. PERDUE December 23, 1839 in Lowndes Co., AL, son of JOHN PERDUE and MARY ELLIS.

More About NANCY KIRKPATRICK:

Burial: Probably Little Sandy Ridge, Lowndes Co.

Notes for JAMES H. PERDUE:

In 1840 Lowndes Co., AL there are 2 James H. Perdues listed. I believe this James was a son of one of the older Perdues, maybe Rev. John B. Perdue or George Perdue. The ages do not point to this being the James Hilland Perdue son of John W. and Betsy Hitch.

James H. Perdue 1 male 15-20, 1 male 20-30, 3 females under 5, 1 female 20-30. Until more research is done, I will put this James with John B. Perdue who married Mary Ellis on 8-5-1813 Jones Co., GA. With census records and wills it would appear John and Mary would have had grown children other than the ones we find in 1850. We know he had an unknown daughter who married E.M. Roper and died before E. M. remarried Amelia Watson.

I can not find any records on Nancy or James or their children. It is possible they moved to another area.
