Dearest Sister

Your very kind letter was received last Monday night the fourth of July and tis needless for me to say it was highly appreciated for every line from you always meets with a warm welcome at home.  I am glad to inform you that our dear old papa is better than he was when I wrote you last so much so that he is able to be off visiting.  Sis Minnie came down to see him and carried him home with her a week ago last Sunday.  We were very willing for him to go for there he cant find anything to do and here when he is able to be up at all he will try to work at something and in thing (sic) that is at all fatigueing makes him worse, even to walk a short distance he will almost be out of breath.  I think he is exactly like Aunt Clarisa was just before she died. the Drs have never told us that he had heart disease but Dr Kendrick told Sis Suber that his heart was affected and that his disease was a dangerous one for as old a person as papa is.  Sister I wish you had been with us yesterday, we went to an Alliance dinner over at old Antioch church.  had a large crowd and a very nice time

had plenty of candidates and some good speeches how is politics in Texas?  the people here are more interested than they ever have been in life even the women & children take an active part some little children had a fight in school last week on the strength of politics.  I have not heard of any men fighting yet but expect every day to hear of a big fight.  there are so many hard things said the hottest race is between Kolb & Jones for Governor.  We are all Kolbites and about 3/4 of the farmers are on the same side all the moneyed men are for Jones not all either but a large majority are.  The boys have gone today to hear Captain Kolb speak at Seawright a new little town down on a new railroad that is being built from Troy through to Pensacola I think.  Seawright is in there some where about the Dozier Settlement, between here and Rose Hill I was glad to hear of your good meeting, but sorry that Satan was turned loose in your midst and was trying so hard to get the upper hand of you all.  I hope every one who threw an egg may be punished as many times as he threw rotten eggs at your preacher.  We have a nice little preacher and his wife is perfection he is a right young man this is his second year there fore is not much preacher but he is just as good as he can be and everybody likes him & his wife I guess our protracted

meeting will be in August.  District Conference convenes at Andalusia the fourth Sunday in this month Bro Dannelly is to preach here on Tuesday night before the fourth Sunday Our Presiding elder is a very fine man and the best preacher I ever heard.  You ask if mama ever got a piece of fancy work from Essie, she did and I wrote to her thanking her for it. but it seems that there is a deficiency in the mail somewhere for I very often write to you and never hear a word from you.

(Thursday night)  Well Sister Papa came home this evening he is looking better than he did when he went away. he says he has been getting on nicely all the time and I tell you Im glad to think he's feeling better The boys have gotten back they heard their man speak and report a very jolly time.  Have you had a nice garden this year?  Ours has been very nice and we still have a plenty of all kinds of vegetables and the prettiest fall bean vines I nearly ever saw.  We have a good many chickens some large enough to fry.  Our cotton crop is good corn not so good but they all say corn will make yet if we have plenty of rain Do you remember old uncle Mose Ewing? (col) he died today.  The health of the community

is very good Our Drs are having a little rest I think.  Mama & I went to Ida's Tuesday night. her baby is nearly two years old and cant walk a step nor speak a word. she is right pitiful looking, is just as pale as death all the time Buddies baby is a little scrap of a thing I dont suppose she will weigh more than twenty pounds but she can walk and talk and is a right sweet baby What is your babys name you wrote me(?) once but I have forgotten.  Well I guess I have written enough for one time about as much I expect as you will have time to decipher at one time.  Please write to us as often as you can We are always so glad to hear even if its just a few lines I think the children might write some if they would.  Much Love to all Yours affectionately.
