Reuben F. Gilder House - LaFayette, AL ca. 1875
Reuben F. Gilder (1837-1922) and wife Martha J. Hinkle Gilder (1842-1908),
built this house on old Warren Street in LaFayette about 1875. The current
address is 124 First Avenue NW. The house has a center hall with two rooms on
each side, served by four fireplaces. Originally a separate kitchen was located
in the back yard. Later a kitchen/dining room was added to the rear of the house,
separated by an open hall, commonly called a dogtrot. I owned this house from 1993-2000,
and restored it to the appearance as shown in the photograph.....Don
