My dear wife:
I once more seat myself
to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope these few
lines may find you the same and also to let you know where I am. I am in
Mississippi in one mild of Jackson. We left Mobile last Tuesday evening
and got here on Friday, that was yesterday. We had a cold trip as it rained
on us from the time we left till we got here. I don't know how long we
will stay here or where we will go to when we leave here. We look to be
in a ...........in a few days. We are ordered to cook todays rashings rite
now and sum of the boys is a looking. I want you to content yourself and
not troubel yourself about me for I am doing very well. I will send howdy
to all my friends and I want them to rite to me and direct your letters
to Jackson, Miss, 40 Alabama regiment, Co.D. Captian Campbell. I would
be glad to see you and the children but I can not now but if we never meet
again here on earth I want you to try to meet me in heaven. I will close
here saing I remain your husband till death.
