FUNERAL OF MR. G.C. GOWDEY HELD FRIDAY
Largely Attended, With Many People From York And Meridian Going To
Livingston For Services
The funeral of the
late G.C.
Gowdey, whose death shocked the community Wednesday morning was held
from the Livingston Baptist church Friday morning.
Rev. R.R. Brasher, pastor of the York Baptist church officiating, Rev.
Mr. Davidson of the Livingston Baptist church assisting.
The church was filled with friends and admirers of the late bank
president, even a portion of the Sunday School rooms being occupied,
many people going to Livingston from York and Meridian to pay their
respects to the departed man.
Rev. Brasher read the Baptist service for the dead following
"Lead Kindly Light" by the choir and was followed by Mr. Davidson who
offered a feeling prayer. The choir again sang this time, "Abide With
Me" and the funeral cortege left the church, the active pallbearers,
R.L. Adams, J.M. Cahoon, D. Greene, Alex Horn, E.L. Longshore, H.L.
Hoot, John Altman, J.P. Stallworth, leading with the casket, follwed by
the honorary, Messrs. E.F. Allison, H. Dillard, Frank Holman,C.L..
Gaston, I. Allen, W. Coleman, C.H. Coleman,Sam Tartt, W.G. Nichols.
After placing the casket in the waiting hearse
the funeral cortege proceeded to Livingston cemetary where services at
the grave were conducted by the Masonic bodies, Mr. Gowdey having
having long been a member of the Masonic fraternity.
Among those present were: from Meridian were R.E. Wilbourne,
Marks Rothenberg, Horace Cameron, and Sam Threefoot.
