Sumter County, Alabama Deed Book A, p. 493 State of Alabama County of Sumter Town of Gainesville Be it remembered that on the 5th day of August AD 1835 Thomas Ware and Charles Buchanon both of said county personally appeared before me Christopher C. Scott Notary Public commissioned by the Governor of the State of Alabama and duly sworn and qualified agreeably to Law and dwelling in the Town of Gainesville aforesaid and upon oath duly administered to them by me deposed and said that they these affiants have been for a number of years well acquainted with ?Jack Tom? a black born in the late ?Choctaw Nation??That said ?Jack Tom? is the second son of ?Old Tom? and ?Old Sally? of said Nation and is full brother to Moses Tom. That when these affiants first became acquainted with the said ?Jack Tom? was regularly married by the Choctaw Customs to a full blood Choctaw woman named ?Ourreeletunah? and from that time to the present the said Jack has continued to live with said Wife and during said time has had by the said full blood Choctaw Woman all born of her the following named Children ?to wit? ?Sophia Tom? born April 15th 1824 ?Syna Tom? born September 18th 1824 [sic] ?Hannah Tom? born December the 29th 1827 ?Vicey Tom? born June 25th 1829 and ?Rhoda Tom? born April 20th 1833. all of whom are females Further these affiants say not. Thomas Ware Charles Buchanon Sworn to and subscribed before me in my Office in the Town of Gainesville aforesaid on the day and Year above written In Testimonium veritate I have to these presents set my Signature and affixed my Notarial Seal of Office Christopher C. Scott Notary Public Although the undersigned cannot upon their personal Knowledge testify as to the truth of the within affidavits.
