Jefferson Barnett Allgood was born 12/5/1818 in Laurens County, South
Carolina. He was the son of DeForrest (5/21/1787- 6/9/1877) and
Alice Lawson (Perry) (4/5/1797- 3/7/1883)Allgood. His siblings were
Elvira, Alice Lawson, William H., and Margaret Perry Allgood.
J.B. Algood is found on the 1840 Census of Sumter County, Al. with the
following family indicated. One male age 20/30, one male age 15/20, two
males age 5/10, and one male age under 5. One female age 50/60, one
female age 20/30, two females age 15/20, one female age 10/15, and one
female age 5/10.
The 1850 Census of Sumter County, Al. Warsaw District, shows:
Household #1088-Jefferson B. Allgood, age 32, Physician, Real Estate
2000, Born S.C.
Dorthala (sic), age 25
Bellia, age 10/12 mos.
( J.B. Allgood owned 14 slaves)
Interestingly the next household # 1089 indicates
Elizabeth D. Little- 45- Real Estate 2000- born Tn.
Ann Jones- 19-Al.
Martha E. Jones- 15-Al.
Mary H. Jones- 12- Al.
Sterling H. Jones- 22- Physician- Al
James W. Jones- 18- Student- Al.
James W. Jones is buried in the Allgood plot and also note Sterling
Henry Allgood. I predict the above Jones’s are Darthula’s siblings. I
do not know how Elizabeth D. Little is connected.
Darthula Allgood died before 1860. Note all of the Allgood children
listed above died in the 1840’s and Bellia was born about 1849. After
the death of his wife, Jefferson B. Allgood apparently left Sumter
County and is found on the 1860 Census of Bibb County, Georgia, Macon
District.
