(Ramsey) Strahl: George Vernon Ramsey Family My paternal grandfather, George Vernon Ramsey, arrived in Colorado in the early 1900's, and took his family to the head of Alkali Creek outside New Castle in Garfield County. Grandfather was born in 1876 in Richland Township, Keokuk Co., Iowa. His parents were Andrew Jackson Ramsey and Ellen Yule My paternal grandmother, Winnie May Raumaker was born March 25, 1878 in Iowa. At the time of her death in 1961, she had lived in New Castle 58 years. She married Grandfather November 23, 1897 in Alton, Kansas. The first child arrived in 1898, and this family would eventually be comprised of nine children: Orpha (1898-1905), Lois (1900-1995),Winafred (1902- ?), Beryl (1903- ?), Ellen (1905-1998), Warren (1907-1964), Henry (1908-1987), Andrew Jackson, (1910-1998), my father, and Carolyn (1915-1947). The first three daughters were born in Iowa, one was born in Missouri, and the remaining children were born in Colorado. All members of this family are now deceased. My father met my mother, who was from Leadville, while she was teaching at the school on Garfield Creek |
