PARENTS: Shepard and Sarah King Prettyman,81 years of age at death.

Joel and his wife Sarah Repell Parker lived in Seaford, Delaware for several years and then moved to the family farm, TOWER HILL, near Lewes, Delaware.

In 1841 he was Treasurer of Sussex County, Delaware.

Short history of his children:
James David, born February 6,1827. In 1853, James David was Clerk of the House of Delaware Legislature. In 1857 James David Prettyman started, in Milford, Delaware, THE PENINSULA NEWS AND ADVERTISER as a radical pro-slavery paper. After the newspaper changed hands 5 times in 6 years, his brother Dr.John Shepard Prettyman purchased it.


:Dr. John Shepard Prettyman:b:September 8, 1825 d:1904 He was born at family farm, TOWER HILL, located near Lewes, Delaware,which was purchased by his 5th great grandfather 228 years before. In 1850 he graduated from Psychopathic Medical College, Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1855 from American Medical College and New York Electric Medical College in New York City. He married :Ann Ellen Hudson
