LOST AT SEA AS CAPTAIN OF THE JAMES SATTERTHWAITE ALONG WITH HIS BROTHER WILLIAM P.LANK

The schooner JAMES SATTERTHWAiTE was built at Milton in l860,and was a large 2 master vessel.

In late December of 1883 it sailed from Wilmington,De.,with a cargo of fertilizer for Wilmington, N.C. On the night of January 8, 1884 it was recorded that a strong southeast gale, accompanied by heavy seas existed on the coast of N.C. It is suspected that the ship floundered during that storm and disappeared with all hands aboard.
