"As I report to you, air attacks are
under way against military targets in Iraq...I've told the American people
before that this will not be another Vietnam. And I repeat this here tonight.
Our troops will have the best possible support in the entire world, and
they will not be asked to fight with one hand tied behind their back."
President George Bush, Address to the
nation, January 16, 1991
Paul Cargile of Milledgeville was in the first footage shown on CNN of the air attacks on Baghdad. He was with the 4th Fighter Wing from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina and was a member of the ground crew that night. He is shown about 4 times, one is a close up. He is also this web master's son. :)
The
Desert
Storm Support Group was very active in Milledgeville writing letters,
mailing care packages, etc. and
Milledgeville's streets were decked out
with yellow ribbons in support of our troops. The National Guard's 48th
Infantry Brigade was mobilized and sent to California for training.
Although combat ready, the war ended before they were employed.
When the war was over Milledgeville had
a grand welcome home parade for the troops.
Gulf War veterans names are on plaques in the Milledgeville Post Office.
