"Alexander Stuckey--Chappells Bridge on
Turkey Creek"

We, Alexander Stuckey
of Wilkinson County as Principal and J. J. White and Wiley A. Word securities
of Laurens County & said State, acknowledges ourselves held and family
bound unto John T. Duncan Ordinary of said County, and his successors in
office in the sum of two hundred and eighty 60/100 dollars subject
to the following condition:
The condition of
the above obligation is as follows: whereas at the bidding out of
the building of a bridge across Turkey Creek and the Lagoons at the place
known as the Byrd Allen Bridges that said the said Alexander Stuckey become
the lowest bidder at and for the sum of one dollar & fifteen cents
per
running foot.
Now should the
same Alexander Stuckey well and truly perform his undertaking, and builds
said Bridges according to the plans & specifications agreed upon, by
the 1st day of December next 1884, and keep the same in good order and
repair, and be responsible for all damages to persons & property that
may occur at said Bridges by carelessness
or _____ of said contractor, for sevenyears from the time said Bridges
are received, then this obligation to be void.
Otherwise, of full force & ___,
and each of us for ourselves and families do hereby waive all right to
Homestead or Exemption as allowed by the laws of this State, so far as
this bond is concerned.

builders that bids would be let to the lowest bidder on the above bridges
mentioned. The first notice was published onAugust 8, 1884 in the
Dublin Post by John T. Duncan, Ordinary.
Alexander Stuckey, of Wilkinson County, submitted
a bid with the requirements. We do not know if the bid was awarded to him.
