Frederick A Clowes

 

Frederick A Clowes, agriculturist, Hilo, Hawaii; born at Simcoe, Ontario, Canada 6 Mar 1885; son of Charles W and Sophia L Clowes; married Lulu Blanche Miller at Hilo, 1912; three children: George C, Richard M, Maile Alberta.  He graduated Ontario Agricultural College, Toronto University degree B.S.A, 1908.  Agriculturalist Whitby Collegiate Institute, Whitby, Ontario 1908-1909; same Hilo Boarding School 1909-1911.  Superintendent Glenwood Experiment Station, Glenwood, Hawaii 1911-1915.  Agriculturalist, Lahainaluna School, 1915-1917; Industrial supervisor of schools, East Hawaii, 1917-1918, 1919-1921.  Captain, Inf., National Guard of Hawaii, 1916-1918. Captain, Infantry US Army 1918-1919.  Vice commander American Legion, 1920-1921; president Hilo Teachers Union 1920-1921.  Director Hawaii County Fair Association; member American Association for Advancement of Science and National Educational Assn. Died 10 Nov 1964; buried O'ahu Cemetery, Honolulu.
