Futoshi Arakawa

 

Futoshi Arakawa, Civil Engineer of Hilo, Hawaii.  Futoshi was born April 9, 1891, Kula, Maui and was the son of Kohei (died before 1930)and Chiyo Masaki (born ca 1850 in Japan, was still living in 1930 census and living with Futoshi and family) Arakawa. Futoshi had a sister Machiyo, who was still single in 1930 and living with Futoshi and his family. 

 

He was education at Hilo High School and Leland Stanford Junior University, AB 1914.  He was a civil engineer and architect at Hilo Hawaii since 1915.  he was the Organizer of the Japanese-American Citizens Association of Hawaii, the first of its kind to be started in the United States and encourages Hawaiian born Japanese to become true American citizens.  He was president of this organization since 1915.

 

Futoshi married Haruko about 1920-1921.  She was born about 1899 in Japan.  They had children: David, (born ca 1921); Marion (born ca 1923); Eva (born ca 1925); June (born ca 1928).
