George Higgins Akau
George Higgins Akau, merchant, Hilo, Hawaii. Born in Hilo, Nov 9, 1884 and was the son of James Awai Akau (1846-1888) and Emelia Kekaiaulu Higgins Akau (28 Sept 1866, Kona; died 27 Aug 1919 in Hilo, daughter of George Wells Higgins and Kaolua Napela, she remarried Hip Lui). George had siblings: Adair Akau (1882-1882), Mercy Kananiaukona Akau (1886-1973) and Adnah Kauhiwai Akau (1888-1974).
He married Caroline "Carrie" de Silva June 15, 1910, Honolulu (born 4 Oct 1883, Honolulu; she died July 1975, buried at Diamond Head Memorial Park, Honolulu). Carrie was the daughter of John Gomes de Silva and Mary Rodrigues. They have two children: George (b ca 1913) and Eleanor Emelia (b 16 March 1915).
Clerk and salesman in the store of E N Holmes, Hilo for 12 years and became manager of the Peoples Store, Hilo. George died 22 Mar 1951, buried Diamond Head Memorial Park, Honolulu.
