John E. Brauer, mention of him was made in last week's issue of the Press, died at his home on east William street Saturday, aged ninety-six years, ten months and nineteen days.
His life covered practically a century. He was born in Germany May 9, 1811. He had lived in this city for more than fifty years.
He was born before the war with England in 1812. The battle of Tippecanoe had not yet been fought. During the span of his life more history had been accomplished for the benefit of mankind than had been done since the world commenced. Mr. Brauer leaves two children in this city, Frank Brauer and Mrs. Joseph Klein, the latter with whom he had lived for several years past. The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. J. F. Sondermann.
