Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (May 17) for C. W. Decker, who died May 14 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edgar Matson, Sunset drive.
Mr. Decker, who was a prominent business and civic leader in Lawrenceburg for many years, was born here to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Decker (Mary Brauer), November 27, 1876. He was one of four children born to this union.
On October 6, 1897 he was married to Ethel Misner. For forty-seven years, Mr. Decker operated a store in Lawrenceburg, and at various times had his own orchestra and bands. A member of the Fillmore Band,he also played with the Leidertafel, a local group which is remembered for their early morning May Day concerts on Ludlow Hill. For many years, he was a member of the Lawrenceburg school board, and he was a director of the Dearborn County Loan and Building Association, for 47 years holding the position of vice-president at the time of his death. He had also been a member of K. of P.Lodge, Odd Fellows Lodge, and Kiwanis.
Two sons, C. W. Decker and Chet L. Decker, preceded him in death, and survivors include his wife, Ethel Decker; two daughters, Mrs. Edgar Matson, of Lawrenceburg, and Mrs. A. P. Hattendorf, Ft. Wayne; five grandchildren, Thomas Matson, West Point, N. Y.; Mrs.Richard Goble, Lawrenceburg; Joan Hattendorf, Ft. Wayne; Miss Janice Hattendorf, Indiana University, and Mrs. J. P. Scudder, Cleveland, O. Also two great grandchildren, Peter and Paul Scudder, Cleveland, Ohio.
Burial was in Greendale cemetery.
