THIEVES AT WORK in CHURCH POINT - 1908
Thursday night thieves played a pretty good game in our
town, breaking in Leo Franques store and took abut $75. worth of jewelry; into
Davids restaurant and finding no money in draw, threw it in the center of the
floor and helped themselves to cigars; into Pierre Guidrys barber shop and
took a pair of shoes and other wearing apparel; into Church Point Lumber Co.s
office and finding no cash in draw placed it in the center of floor; and
repeated the action in other places. Early the following morning T.O. Guidry
was on their trail and reached Lewisburg soon, where he learned five negroes
had been noticed to pass that place in a swift walk from this direction some
time before he arrived. Mr. Guidry pursued on toward Opelousas. It is almost
certain a capture will be made.
