OZANE MATTE & DAVID BREWER ARRESTED AT MERMENTAU
Crowley Signal
November 1, 1902
They were arrested Sunday, and brought to this city charged
with horse stealing. The arrest was made under an indictment by the grand jury
and the name of the informant is not known. The accused claim they did not
steal the horse, but that it was a stray animal which was taken up by them,
duly advertised and sold by the Justice of the Peace, and that they became the
purchasers. A peculiar feature of the case is that the accused never learned
who informed against them.
