SHOOTING AT CHURCH POINT
Crowley Signal February 17, 1900
A shooting scrape took place at
Church Point last Monday. Particulars of the case cannot be ascertained at
present further than what we give below:
The principals of the shooting were
Wm. Murrell (brother of Joe of this city) and Pierre Comeaux, both of Church
Point. Some trouble arose between the men and it is stated that Comeaux made
an assault upon his opponent with a club. In the affray which followed Comeaux
was shot. It cannot be learned whether the wound has proved fatal or not.
Mr. Murrell at once surrendered to
the authorities at Church Point and was brought to this city by the constable
late Wednesday evening. He stated to the Signal reporter Thursday morning that
the shooting was done in self defense and he hoped it would not prove fatal.
