The Crowley Signal June 16, 1930
Mistaking her for a burgular, Fernest Thibodeaux, prominent St. Landry farmer living near Lewisburg section, shot and killed his wife at their home early Monday morning.
Mr. Thibodeaux was awakened by his wife at about 2 oclock this morning when she heard noises coming from the chicken yard, a number of chicken thefts having occurred in the neighborhood recently.
Mr. Thibodeaux rushed to another room for his shot gun. As he entered the kitchen he saw what he thought was the burgular and fired one load of bird shot from his shot gun. Upon investigating he found that it was wife who made her way to the kitchen while he had gone for his gun. The full load struck Mrs. Thibodeaux in the abdomen also shattering her left arm. She was rushed to an Opelousas sanitarium where she died this morning.
Mrs. Thibodeaux was before her marriage Miss Belle Guidry of Church Point. She is survived by her huband and three children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Estave Guidry, of here and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed but it is thought that services will be held at the Catholic church in the church cemetery tomorrow.
