GUS GODCHAUX

After suffering for more than a year and making an extensive
tour of the West in hope of benefiting his health, Gustave Godchaux, President
of the Planters Rice Mill, and for many years a promininent business man
there, died Monday afternoon at age 55.
Mr. Godchaux moved to Abbeville from Franklin in 1877, and
since has been active in the business, social an political life of that
community. He was interested in the Bank of Abbeville, The Godchaux Brick
Company, The Agnes Plantation, and other enterprises.
He leaves but one son, Frank A. Godchaux, manager of the
Planters Rice Mill.
The funeral took place Tuesday, and interment was made in
the old Masonic Cemetery.
