Whiskey Chitto Creek crosses the northeastern boundary of Beauregard
Parish and intersects with Six-Mile Creek.. The name was recorded by LaTourette on his map
in 1846 as B. Whiskey Chitto. Whiskey Chitto Creek is a phonetic rendering of the Choctaw
name for the creek. In Louisiana Place-Names of Indian Origin by William Reed, says that
the name means "Big Cane Creek." Whiskey is the phonetic rendering of the
Choctaw "nski" or "canebrake." Chit to mean "large."
