Francois SAUCIER was born in Mobile about 1712. His father died about 1715 and his mother remarried twice in the next 5 years. The family moved to New Orleans about 1722. Francois drew one of the early maps of New Orleans in 1728 (Archives des Colonies, FR) when he was just a teen-ager. The map is still in existence.
About 1730 Francois's older brother, Henri, went to Illinois and while there he married Barbe LaCroix. Later other brothers followed, including Francois. Francois was the engineer who was commissioned to rebuild Ft. Chartres.
