PARISH FORMATION

East Baton Rouge Parish was first established by an act, which was passed in 1807, but as the territory did not then belong to the United States another act was passed in 1811 establishing the parish of East Baton Rouge. The parish seat is Baton Rouge, Louisiana's state capital.
