East Baton Rouge Parish (French: Paroisse de Bāton-Rouge Est) and means "Red Stick". The parish seat is Baton Rouge, Louisiana's state capital. As of 2000, the population was 412,852. The parish has a total area of 471 square miles (1,219.9 km2), of which 455 square miles (1,178.4 km2) is land and 15 square miles (38.8 km2) (3.21%) is water.

East Baton Rouge Parish is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the Baton Rouge–Pierre Part Combined Statistical Area.
