Rites Are Held For Victim Of Accident

Funeral services for William L. “Bill” Masters, 39, of Jonesboro, were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel of Jonesboro with the Rev. Richard Shreve officiating.

Burial was in McDonald Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Masters was dead on arrival at Jackson Parish Hospital about 11 p.m. Sunday after being injured around 9:30 p.m. while working with Rix Drilling Company of Shreveport. The accident occurred about 15 miles west of Hodge in Bienville Parish. A piece of machinery struck Mr. Masters on the chest according to the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Department.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Evelyn Masters of Jonesboro; one son, William Lonnie Masters, of North Little Rock, Ark.; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Jean Populif and Miss Donna Pearl Masters, both of North Little Rock, Ark.; his father, Larkin Masters of Jonesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Elon Dark and Mrs. Lucille Reed, both of Jonesboro; three half-brothers, Perriel Bryant of Baytown, Ala., Harvey Masters of Quitman and David Masters of Jonesboro; one half-sister, Mrs. Julia Jordan of Jonesboro; one stepson, Jimmy Ray May of West Monroe; three step-daughters, Mrs. Joan Corley and Miss Nellie Ann Madison, both of Dodson, and Mrs. Jeraldine Causey of North Hodge; and three grandchildren.
