Does anyone have information on a BALDWIN family of St. Landry Parish whose
only child Isaac BALDWIN Jr., died in 1845, unmarried, parents deceased.
He left a cousin, Albert COVINGTON, a tract of land and the rest of his
large estate to his slave, Laura TAYLOR. He asked that all be sold and
the money go to Laura. He emancipated both Laura and her husband William
TAYLOR. The will was contested and I have been told by the New Orleans
Library that a copy of the succession would cost over $300. The will was
contested by Isaac's aunts and uncles - siblings of his mother (children
of Nathanial WILLIAMS of Rockingham Co., NC. I would like to contact someone
who knows about this estate settlement.

Seeking information on John COKER, b. 1824, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.
John might have been the son of the John COKER who married Sally HUDSON,
25 March, 1836, in Opelousas. The John b. in 1824, was in Rapides Parish
by at least 1850. He married 1st - Mary ?, and they had 4 children: Sarah,
Jane, Sidney W., and William Bryant COKER. He married 2nd - Rosaline SNODDY,
who I believe was from Avoyelles Parish. I only know of one child from
this second marriage, my 2nd great-grandmother, Synthia COKER.
