Bayou D'Loutre

This photograph was taken on Bayou D'Loutre just upstream from its mouth at Port Union on the Ouachita River in southeastern Union Parish Louisiana. Gene Barron and I went out on the Loutre and took these photographs on a hot summer day in late June 2006. If early settlers travelled up and down the Loutre to reach Port Union and the Ouachita River, they must have done so in during periods of high water. Our small boat hit numerous snags.
