 HOFSTETTER, George E, Jr  07/16/2005 George Elmer Hofstetter Jr., a non-com-missioned
Navy officer whose career spanned more than 20 years, died of congestive heart failure July 16 at Continuum Care,
 a nursing home in Sykesville.  The Highlandtown resident was 77.  Mr. Hofstetter was born in Baltimore and raised
on Frankford Avenue. He was a 1946 graduate of Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School, and he
enlisted in the Navy in 1949.  A chief electrician’s mate, Mr. Hofstetter saw  extensive sea duty before being discharged
in 1972.  “He amused and delighted his family at every homecoming with stories and with trinkets from the people and
cultures of the many lands he visited.” said his niece Alice J Moore of Baltimore.  “He loved the Navy with all his heart.” 
 After leaving the Navy, he worked a number of odd jobs with several construction and home-improvement companies. 
He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed working on his car and doing home-improvement 
 projects at his North Grundy Street residence. At his request, no services are planned.  Mr. Hofstetter is also survived by
a sister, Mary Esther Lawrence of Vancouver, Wash; and many nieces and nephews.
