Walter Schmidt, Jr.
Longshoreman

A Mass of Christian burial for Walter M. Schmidt Jr. a longshoreman will be offerred at 11 am today at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 400 S. Chester St. Baltimore.

Mr. Schmidt, 46, a resident of Forest Hill in Harford County died Friday at University Hospital after a short illness.

Mr. Schmikdt who worked for ITO Corporation was a member of the International Longshoreman's Association Local 333 for 17 years. He grew up in Fells Point, attending Holy Rosary Elementary School and graduating from Patterson High School.

He was a first sergeant with the 175th Infantry Battalion of the Maryland National Guard, based at the Dundalk armory, to which he had belonged for 25 years.

An enthusiastic outdoorsman, he liked to hunt geese and to crab, particularly on the Eastern Shore.

Surviving are his wife, the former Linda Poremski; two sons, Douglass Schmidt and Derrek Schmidt of Forest Hill; his mother Laura S. Schmidt of Baltimore, and a sister Christine T. Bennett of Shrewsbury, PA.
