News of the death of Joel O F Covell, retired engineer, on April 12, was a shock to his hundreds of friends all over the system.
Joe was born in 1856.  He entered the service as a fireman in Baltimore in January, 1878, and was promoted to engineer on January 20, 1882, and worked in this position until he retired on January 27, 1930.  He was a member of the B of L E, B & O Veteran's Association and other fraternal organizations.  Funeral services were held at a funeral parlor and interment was in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore.
Mr Covell's wife died several years ago.  He is survived by five children:  Mrs George Herth, Scarsdale, N.Y.: J.O.F., Jr., Luther K., Mrs. Howard Bleakley and Mrs Harry E Morrison, all fo Baltimore.
His death is a shock to Grand President Fawver and myself.  It is hard to realize that we will never again be made happy by his friendly visits.  Our Veterans and the B of L E have lost a loyal supporter.
Speaking from personal contact, Grand President Fawver says he always found Joe to be a gentleman in every sense.  For a number of years they worked together as chairmen of the B of L E committees on our road.
Joe was a man of sterling character, intelligent, loveable and considerate of the needs and necessities of his fellow men.  In his duties as a committee chairman, he gave decisions fairly and in a manner which left a deep impression on his fellow workers
