FEBRUARY 19, 1859
In the name of God Amen. I Samuel Carr of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland, being of weak in body but sound in mind, memory and complete understanding, do hereby make and constitute this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and nulling all former Wills made by me.
First, I commit my soul into the hands of my Creator, God, and my body to be interred at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named, and after all my just debts and funeral expenses are paid, I divide my estate in the following manner:
Secondly, I will and direct that my negro women Mary Susan and Cecilia shall serve my daughter Mary Julia Carr, the term of ten years after my death and shall be and go free and all the inservice they may have shall also serve until they arrive at the age of twenty-five and then shall be and go free.
Thirdly, I will and direct that my negro girl Charity shall serve my daughter Mary Julia Carr until the year 1882 and then shall be and go free.
Fourthly, I will and direct that my negro man Lewis shall serve my daughter Mary Julia Carr, the term of eight years after my death and then be and go free.
Fifthly, I will and direct that my negro man Virgel shall serve my daughter Mary Julia Carr, the term of nine years after my death and then be and go free.
Sixthly, I will and direct that my negro man George shall serve my daughter Mary Julia Carr, the term of ten years after my death and then be and go free.
Sevently, I will and direct that my negro man John Henry shall serve my daughter Mary Julia Carr, the term of eleven years after my death and then be and go free.
Eightly, I will and direct that my negro boys John and Henry shall serve my daughter Mary Julia Carr until they are to be free under the Will of my father Robert Carr.
Ninthly, I will and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my real and personal estate that I may die in possession of, to my daughter Mary Julia Carr to her and her heirs forever provided the said daughter Mary Julia Carr pay to Laura V. Collins two hundred dollars when she arrives at the age of twenty years and providing the said daughter Mary Julia Carr, pay my negro man Lewis twenty dollars yearly after my estate is settled up during the term of his servitude as compensation for his faithful performance of his duty as a faithful servant and obedience to me.
Lastly, I constitute and appoint my nephew Philip Wesley Witwright and Benjamin Allen Welch to be Executors of this my last Will and Testament set my hand, seal this nineteenth day of February, eighteen hundred and fifty nine.

We also certify that the word (of) is interlined in the bequest of the fourth line and word (dollars) is interlined in the said bequest of the eighth line when signed by us.

Whereas I, Samuel Carr of Anne Arundel County and State of Maryland, my Last Will and Testament in writing, date the nineteenth of February, eighteen hundred and fifty nine and by which I have given and bequeathed to my daughter Mary Julia Carr certain negro boys Lewis, Virgel, George, John, Henry, Mary Susan and be under servitude for term of five years.
Now therefore I do this by my writing which I hereby declare to be a codicil to my said Last Will and Testament to be taken as a part through order and declare that in my Will is that in case my daughter Mary Julia Carr should die before their time of servitude expires (and in case my estate is settled up) they and each of them shall be and go free at her death and lastly, it is my desire that this codicil be annexed to and made a part of my Last Will and Testament and foresaid to all intents and purposes.
I witness should I have hereunto set my hand this day the nineteenth day of February, eighteen hundred and fifty nine.
