1796:
“In the Name of God Amen I York Griffith
of Baltimore County in the state of Maryland (a free Black man) being of Sound
and perfect mind, memory and understanding though weak of body do therefore make
and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following. First
of the Goods and Chattles that god hath given me. I will that my funeral
Expenses and all my just debts be Justly paid as soon as Convenient by my
Executrix herein after named. Secondly I give and bequeath all the rest residue
and remainder of my Property oe Estate of every description Either of Real or
Personal including all and every debt and demand whatsoever at present due to me
or that may be due to me hereafter unto my wife Susanna Griffith to be enjoyed
by her for her own use her heirs and assigns forever. Excepting my Wearing
apparel which I give to my son James Griffith. Lastly I hereby Constitute
nominate and appoint my said wife Susanna Griffith sole Executrix of this my
Last Will and Testament. Revoking all former wills made by me and publishing
and declaring this to be my Last will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have
hereunto set my name and affixed my Seale this fifth day of September in the
year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six
