Carr School in Pittsfield

Carr School in Pittsfield

This is a newspaper photo of the Carr Schoolhouse on Route 100 Pittsfield was in the Lewiston Journal Magazine Section on Dec. 01, 1945.  Under the photo is, "District School House where Joe Cianchette secured all his book learning, as it looked when he was a student there".  Mr. Joseph R. Cianchette was a prominent and important citizen of Pittsfield.  He went to school here as a young man and left school in the year 1919 when he was 14 years old.

According to the Pittsfield Register, "Mr. William Carr moved next to the Carr Schoolhouse in 1824 from Clinton Maine".  He purchased the property in 1822 when it was still called Warsaw.  The school was listed as District 5 according to early town records.  Mr. Carr, a Veteran of the War of 1812, was a town selectman for Pittsfield as well as the school agent.

This photo must have been taken before 1931, when the school closed.  After it stopped operating as a school, it was converted to a private residence.  Revival meetings were held here also.  This building still has the original old tree log supports in the basement.

I do not know who the people are.  I am trying to find out when the school began operation.  I am also trying to find photos of the William Carr family and their descendents.
