This project started with the rediscovery of some family notes provided by my late aunt Barbara Wing Smith which listed the children and grandchildren of John N. Wing and Sylvia Daggett Wing. I decided to attempt to put together a family tree so that future generations of my descendants might know their ancestry. The project was going quite slowly until I found John and his family in the census records for Waldo County for 1860, 1870, and 1880. I then found out about the "History and Genealogy of Morrill, Maine" by Timothy W. Robinson, Theoda Mears Morse, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles White. I was able to obtain a copy of the 1983 version in very good condition and to my great surprise the entire family is listed there. This family tree is based on the information from this book. I was originally just going to do a genealogy from John and Sylvia down through Harry Levant Wing, my grandfather, but with so much information available in this book I included family data from the families that the Wing's intermarried with. Except for any transcription errors on my part the data is as accurate as provided in this book. Since I was originally doing the descendants of Harry Lavant Wing I have included his children, my aunts and uncles, here also. I have documented data on their births, marriages, and deaths.

Given all this information one piece of information eluded me. The ancestry of John N. Wing was still not known, at least not until January 2006. At that time Raymond Wing, genealogist for the Wing Family of America, pointed out his ancestry on the Rootsweb site for the Wing Family of America. Thank you Ray.

Data from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints indicate that a John N. Wing, married to Silvia W. Daggett, was born 1810 in Maine. The 1860 census for Morrill lists John as 50. The 1870 census lists him as 65. Both census lists him as being born in Maine.

The 1860 Census data was obtained from the Waldo County website (Morrill Census).

The 1880 census lists Sylvia W. Wing as 65 years old. Information from the LDS website lists a Silvia Weston Daggett being born on August 6, 1814 in Union, Knox, Maine to Jonathan Daggett and Elizabeth Martin.

Silvia is listed as Silvia, Sylvia, and Sylva. The Church of Latter Day Saints list her as Silvia Weston Daggett, born August 6, 1814 in Union, Waldo, ME, married to John N. Wing, and died June 16, 1893 in Morrill, Waldo, ME. The information on her parents and paternal grandparents was obtained from same source.

Silvia was the seventh of eight children of Jonathan's first wife.

Silvia's known ancestry is quite extensive. It was found on the "RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project:" website. It was found while looking for the origin of Weston in her name. It turns out that her father's brother, William, married Silvia Church Weston about seven years prior to her birth. At the same time as looking for this connection I found a pedigree tree going back many generations and a reference to a book "The History of Martha's Vineyard Volume III Family Genealogies" by Dr. Charles Bank. The Daggett genealogy is documented in this book along with a number of families that show up in the Daggett family tree. This can be viewed on the web at The Daggett Family of Martha's Vineyard . or you can start at the Historical records of Dukes County.

The Daggett genealogy contained in this book shows that one line of her descendancy is from John Howland and Elizabeth (Tilley) Howland of the "Mayflower" as well as Elizabeth's parents, also on the "Mayflower" John and Elizabeth Tilley.

Information on Silvia's ancestry was also provided by a descendant of Uriah Foss and Sarah Goodrich providing some research assistance. Thank you Richard.

Thomas and Amanda lost 3 children around 1863. The cause of their deaths is not known. Diphtheria was reported in Morrill around 1862 and this may be the cause of the 3 deaths within a month of each other.

After the death of her mother Laura (Sheldon) Wing in 1871 she lived with her great aunt Margaret Elizabeth (Wing) Blake in Cripple Creek, Colorado.

She later married a Mr. Williams.

In 1952 she was living in Florence, California.

An Ida Blake shows up in the 1880 Census for Colorado for Edward and Margaret Blake as a 10 year old. This information was provided by a descendant of Uriah Foss and Sarah Goodrich who was providing some research assistance. Thank you Richard.

The 1860 census lists Elizabeth in two places, with her parents and with Edward.

In the 1860 census:

The book on "The History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill Maine" states that the family moved to Colorado after the Civil War and was there at least thru 1890 and then came back to MA. and were there in 1907. Edward's ancestry is also given in this book.

They also showed up in the 1880 census for Cripple Creek, Colorado. This information provided by a cousin providing assistance in this research. Thank you Richard.

Laura's husband teaches in Hanover, NH. Her son Richard Sheldon Baillie, who graduated from Dartmouth, is at Harvard waiting to enter the Navy (WWII). Their daughter Jean is in college in VT.

Marion apparently married and has 2 sons in the service, Stanley and Charles - surname not mentioned.

Marion died in 1939.

Theodore also married but is living separately from his wife and child. He is in Malden and his wife and child are in Pittsburgh, PA - names not mentioned.

The MA Vital Records list her death under Lizzie B. (Nolton) Wing. They were living in Townsend and she died in Pepperell, age 68y, 6m. Approximate birth date was calculated from age at death.

Her marriage record claims that she was born in Waldo, ME. Marion's death certificate claims her mother was born in Waldo.

Notes for Eva L. Rumrill:

The marriage was recorded in Everett but the certificate states that the marriage took place in Revere. This was the 2nd marriage for William and the 3rd for Eva. She divorced her first husband and the second one died. They were both living in Everett at the time. She was 52 and he was 72.

The Social Security Death Index, 004-50-5006, has a record for an Eva Wing, born March 12, 1887 who died April 1983. She last resided in Waldoboro, ME ( Issued in ME).

The Maine Death Archives lists an Eva L. Wing who did in Camden on April 10, 1983 at the age of 96 years. Certificate No. 8303423. She was living at the Camden Nursing Home at 19 Mountain Street at the time of death. She is listed by her informant as being the daughter of Edwin Rumrill and Cynthia unknown.

Eva's parents, Edwin and Susan are listed in the 1870 census for Goshen, Sullivan, Vermont. He was from NH and she was from VT. They had a 4 year old son. I never found them in any later census records.

The 1900 Federal Census for Royalton, VT lists Eva L. Rumrill, 13, living with her brother Leslie H., 24, and his wife Alice, 24, along with another brother Clinton J., 29.

The 1920 Federal Census record for Randolph, VT lists Alice living alone.

Eva L. Cornell shows up again in the 1930 Federal Census for Boston as a widow, age 43, and married at 17.

Eva does not show up in the 1910 or 1920 census.

They were both living on School Street in Lynn at the time and both working as nurses in Boston. He was 29 and she was 34. It was her 2nd marriage, widow. The private communication listed above indicates that his wife and daughter in Ohio - no names mentioned - in 1942.

The 1910 Federal Census for VT lists him in Windham County, VT as an attendant at the Brattleboro Retreat.

The 1920 Federal Census for Boston Enumeration District lists Llewellyn Wing as 29, married and an employee of Boston State Hospital in Dorchester. He was born about 1891 in MA of Maine parents.

Edna is also listed as a nurse at this hospital.

The 1930 Federal Census lists him at the US Veteran's Home for Nurses in Kansas City, MO as an attendant. He is listed as married but Edna is not there.

The Social Security Death Index has a record of a Theodore Wing, born July 16, 1904, who died October 1984 in Phoenix, AZ. (Issued in MA). This SSDI is the basis of the death date and location.

The 1920 Federal Census lists Theodore as single and living at home. The 1930 Federal Census lists him as being married but living with his parents, no wife listed. I was unable to locate a marriage in the MA Vital Records from 1916 - 1930.

The "History and Genealogy of Morrill, Maine " states that his first two children were born in Jackson, ME and the last seven in Saugus, MA. In fact: George and Malcolm were born in Jackson, ME; Valesca was born in Somerville, MA; Barbara was born in Boston, MA; Bernice and Hester were born in Saugus, MA; Harry, Rosemary, and Guy were born in Lynn, MA. The entire family did live in Saugus for a number of years, probably from at least 1923 to at least 1938 and in MA much longer. The birth documentation referenced in the end notes verifies the birth locations. All remained in MA with the exception of Rosemary who moved away and died young, Harry, Jr. who moved away but returned and Guy who was in the Army but returned.

According to the previously mentioned private correspondence Stanley was in Hawaii in the Air Corps in 1942. Could be the correct record. This record also claims he was divorced without dependents but I couldn't find a marriage record for him from 1921 - 1940 in MA.
