NEALLEY: Does any one out there have information on the Nealley families that came to Monroe between 1802 & 1804? In 1802,  John B. Nealley & his younger brother Joseph came to Monroe. They were from Nottingham, N. H. John B. Nealley  married Betsey Low, June 5, 1808 in Frankfort. Joseph Nealley  married Cynthia Putnum, April 14, 1803 in Frankfort. 
In 1804, they were joined in Monroe by Daniel Nealley, the son of Andrew also from Nottingham, N. H.

OVER: Emma Over  I came across your website by shear chance and was quite pleased by the information it offers. A brief background: The farthest back I can trace my family in New England is a possible relative, Daniel Over born in 1785 on St. George. About 1816 a woman by the name of Emma Over was born although it is now assumed that was not her true last name and that she bore a child by Daniel Over thus taking his last name.

The family story goes Emma was either of the Micmaq or Penobscot tribe. She is later found living in Belfast in the 1850 census, She is married to a man named Henry Hoyt and they had children, Daniel (assumed to be Daniel Over's son as  although he is first born, he is not named after Henry)  Emma, Henry Jr., Phoebe, Boola and not recorded ... a child named Bazzilian ... the same child noted in the  1860 Cranberry Isle census. He apparently was not born at the time of the 1850 census.

In the 1860 Cranberry census the family is no more and the children have all been dispersed ... most to Cranberry Isle. They include Phoebe ( who would later move to Boston and become my great, great grandmother) Henry and Bazzilain. We assume something happened to their mother, Emma and it was recently discovered that Henry the dad left for Nova Scotia where he created a new life, remarried and raised another family. Emma, the younger can be found living in the Daniel Over household in 1860. No trace of Boola. There is no record of her mothers death which in lies a great mystery ....what became of Emma, the elder? It is pretty much assumed she died leaving her children motherless. I do know Daniel Over and his wife, Nancy (Butler) Over are buried at Tennets Harbor. Is there anyway of knowing if Emma is there as well?

Another unanswered mystery is: What was happening on Cranberry Isle? Why in the mid 19th century were families taking in young children? I learned a woman named Lucinda Gott Stanley was known for opening her arms to lost children. What became of these children? Any insight to his mystery would be greatly appreciated.

OVERLOCK:  George F. Overlock was born in Stockton in 1870 and lived there his whole life. He married 3 times: Florence Thomas, Nellie Harriman and Lida (Eliza) B. Larrabee. All three wives are buried together in Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Stockton. There is a depression in the plot where someone was buried but there is no stone. I think George lived long enough to bury his third wife in 1957. However, I cannot find his death or his burial. I am told it is not in the Stockton death records and it is not listed in the on-line Maine deaths. I am told that he was a spiritualist and that he lived a long life "up on the hill." PARK:  I've just discovered that I'm almost definitely related to the Park family of Searsport, Maine. Specifically, my Gr. Gr. Grandmother was Irene Park, born 23 Oct 1831 in Ohio. In the 1850 census, she's listed in the 1850 census (Searsport) with Oliver C. Park & his wife, Catherine E. & their children, Louisa E. & Oliver W., along with Richard J. Morithow? (Perhaps Merrithew) & his wife Harriet.
Oliver & Mr. Morithow are listed as sailors. Oliver was born about 1828 in Maine, Richard was born about 1820 in Maine.
I'm trying to figure out if Irene's father is Benjamin Park, or if he's someone else in that area. (Oliver C. is too young to be her father.) There sure look like there were a lot of Park families in Searsport that lived close to each other... Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

PARK: Please post an inquiry to your experts about the Park family who were sea captains.  Oliver Winslow Park, my great grandfather, as a young man, was caught in a waterspout off the coast of Messina, and he and two sailors were at sea for three days before being rescued.  He later moved to Grinnell, Iowa which had a Congregational Church.  He also attended the Bucksport Academy. PATTERSON: I am still seeking Mary Patterson's family. The birth date I have for Mary is Nov.25, 1783. I'm not certain of this as I have seen a 1784 date also. Mary Patterson married Thomas Russell of Mason, New Hampshire on March 6, 1808. The couple soon relocated to Mason. Their children were: Nelson 1809,  David 1811, Emily 1813, George 1818, and finally Thomas Barzillai, born 1826. I am thinking that this unusual middle name of Thomas' is possibly a Patterson family name. It certainly didn't come from the Russells. PENDLETON:  I was on the Waldo County, Maine website and noticed that the family name Pendleton was one of the seagoing families recorded in the book "Searsport Sea Captains" and that several generations of this family had been traced in this book.  There was a picture of a Capt. Phineas Pendleton I, b. Sept. 26, 1780, Stonington, Connecticut, d. Feb. 27, 1873, Searsport, Maine; Photograph from Searsport Sea Captains, p181.
That Pendleton family is an allied family of mine that I am researching.
I am interested in a Caleb Tweksbury Pendleton. The only help I can offer is the marriage notice from NB newspapers listed below:
Vital Statistics From New Brunswick (Canada) Newspapers, Vol. 55, Entry #1700:
“m. Smith’s Cove, N. S. ., 21st inst., by Rev. W. M. . Godfrey, at the house of Jabez Snow, Tewksberry Pendleton, Deer Island (Charlotte Co.) N.B. / Miss Eugenie GILLIS, [1] Smith’s Cove.* 27 September 1881 D.T.; 27 September 1881 D.N.; 6 October 1881 COURIER.”
By the way he m. a Eugenia Snow, NOT Gillis.
C.  T.  Pendleton died in NS on March 18 1903, aged 77 > born ca 1825. 
A lady on the Charlotte County, NB website informed me that the Pendletons of Charlotte County were related to the Pendletons of Islesboro, Maine.  I was hoping maybe my C. T. Pendleton or his headstone transcription more accurate.  He lived on Job's Island and Seven-hundred Acre Island until 1819, when he moved to Licking county, Ohio.  He is buried in Gaffiedl Cemetery in St. Albans Twp., Licking County, Ohio.  Two of his sons, Joel and Darius (my  gg grandfather), later moved to Hancock County, Ohio  (not to be confused with Hancock county,  Maine) where Darius ' homestead still stands  near McComb, Ohio.  The frustration I have with this family is that I have not been able to document the fact that many of his children were born on Job's Island..   I contacted the Islesboro clerk in 1999 and she could not locate the family.  I purchased "The vital Records of Islesboro " when it came out in 2000., but the James Gilkey Pendleton family was not listed.  The real frustration is that Cyrus, the son born between Joel and Darius,  went south and married a girl in Kentucky who was "descended from French aristocracy."   He also reportedly served in the Confederate Army, although I have not been able to document that.  I don't have a problem with his being a Confederate (the Pendletons historically seemed to be pretty independent about who they aligned with) , but in a History of Daviess county Kentucky, he says that he was born in VIRGINIA.   He still claimed James Gilkey Pendleton and Betsy Philbrook as his parents, but Virginia was where he was born.  For some time I have felt that he made up the Virginia story to give himself a more aristocratic background than the Maine Pendletons.  However, I have just discovered this week that there is a JOB'S ISLAND in Virginia, so maybe it was an honest mistake. 

Darius had at least 15 children with two wives  in Hancock County, OH.  First wife was Rachael Philbrook from Maine.   A disturbing percentage of his children from both wives were a little "off" or disturbed to the point of being put in a mental institution.    I can't help wondering if that cropped up in any other Pendleton lines.  Leah Pendleton Raney  31 Aug 07

PENDLETON:  Lavenia Eliza Pendleton ( b. Nov. 18,1850 in Islesboro, ME ) married Lester A. Lewis ( b. Feb.4, 1845 ) on August 29, 1875. Lester A. Lewis had a three mast schooner, the Lester A. Lewis or Schooner Lewis. The schooner wrecked in Provincetown Harbor November 26,1898. The Bangor Daily News reported it.  My husband is Lester A. PERKINS: I am looking for information on Fred W Perkins, born February 27, 1896 in Frankfort, Maine. His mother's first name and middle initial is Flora E. She had two children before him, Forest L Catlin and Wilfred Benton Catlin. Forest died in October 24, 1918 during WWI due to pneumonia. Forest is buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, France. Flora E married a Willard Sanborn, residing in Jackson, Maine in 1900. She had two sons with Willard Norman Whitten Sanborn and Maurice/Morris Sanborn. REYNOLDS / WEST: My name is Frances Dodge and I am attempting to compile my husband's genealogy.  Homer Reynolds from Troy, Maine was the 1st husband of Isadore "Nell" West.  When were they married?  When did Homer die?   Where is he buried?   When did Isadore remarry?  Is she buried with Homer?  My brick wall are these three people.  I can find nothing but scraps on any of them.  Bible record gives Freeman Dodge and Isadore West as parents of John Abner Dodge.  Marriage record of John Abner Dodge says mother was Isadora Reynolds (1st husbands surname) and Freeman Dodge.  Granddaughter of Isadore and Freeman Dodge remembered that "Nell" was married first to Homer Reynolds from Troy, Maine.  Isadore died before 1899 and Freeman died between 1923-25.  No one living remembers where Freeman was buried.  Reply to: Frances Dodge   3 Mar 03

REYNOLDS: I'm trying to ascertain if my ggg-grandmother, Thankful Reynolds (maiden name) who married Joshua Reynolds in Burnham in 1842 is the daughter of John B. Reynolds and his wife, Betsy Dodge of Burnham. I understand that they had a daughter Thankful b 1824. I'd also like info on any other children of John B and Betsy (Dodge) Reynolds. Anyone know what the "B." in John B. stands for? John B. Reynolds parents were Daniel and Thankful (Haskell) Reynolds of Burnham. I found the town vital records (LDS microfilm) for Burnham that listed their intentions in 1842, listing them as Joshua Reynolds and Thankful Reynolds both of Burnham so I'm sure she was a Reynolds before marriage. Also, if anyone has info on Joshua's children. After Thankful Reynolds died, he allegedly married Adella but due to a combination of circumstances, I'm not sure if Joshua married Adella or maybe Joshua had a son named Joshua Jr who married her. RICHARDS:  I'm looking for information on Herbert Franklin Richards who married Mabel Alvina Gushee.  They married March 18, 1908 in Lincolnville, ME.  I can trace the Gushees fairly well, but I can't find anything on Herbert at all the usual sites and would appreciate some information.  My in-laws were recently there to put my husband's Great-Aunt to rest in Camden.  They stopped at the Lincolnville Historical Society and hopefully have some contact information for me.  Reply to: Kim Brown   17 Feb '10

RICHARDS:  I am quite sure that the people I am looking for are buried in Searsmont, Waldo, Maine.  I have looked at the cemetery information online, but I have not found the information I need.
* I am looking for Josiah Richards b: abt 1789 probably in Lincolnville, Maine.   His wife,  Martha  Richards Richards, also born abt. 1789,  probably in Lincolnville.  Their seven children were born from 1814 to abt 1827 in Searsmont.  Martha died 10 May 1836 and a small child (girl) also died about that same time.  I think the three of them are buried in Searsmont.   At least the mother and child.  I am not sure about Josiah.*

RICHARDSON: Abriather Richardson was a Baptist Minister from Appleton, Maine. In 1830, a woman by the name of Mary (Chandler) Wellington was placed in his care by a Judge Johnson of Belfast, Maine. Mary died in Appleton the following year, 4 May,1831. She was declared "insane" by Johnson. I found Richardson's grave in a small cemetery on Appleton Ridge and was wondering if he kept any records of events such as these and would it be possible to view them. I have tried to make contact with the Appleton Baptist Church, but have not been successful. I think there is a possible link between the Wellingtons and Richardsons and have been attempting to link Peter Wellington to Mary ( Chandler) and George Wellington, also of Appleton. Mary was George's second wife. According to Sibley's History of Union, George removed from Union to Appleton, thence to Albion where he died. When Mary was brought to Belfast the court records show that she was a widow with no estate and was brought there by relatives Peter Wellington and James Clark Jr., who married Peter's sister, Mary Wellington. RICHARDSON -  CHASE:  My great Uncle Horace and Aunt Pearl Richardson resided in Brooks, Maine.  Aunt Pearl died Feb. 1977.  She was the daughter of Herbert Chase and Laura Kitchen Chase (My great grandfather and great grandmother.  Can you tell me what her address was while she was alive?  Would like to visit Brooks and see her home.  I believe my Uncle Horace was a horse shoer, and perhaps postmaster.  Any and all info on them and the Chase history in Maine would be great.  I have a document honoring Stephen H. ROBBINS:  In the History of the Robbins Family of Walpole, Mass. - Descendants of William and Priscilla Robbins by Dana W. Robbins - 1949: on page 168 is Bela [4] Robbins, son of Ebenezer. Bela married in 1785 to Margaret Meservey. They lived in Union, Knox County, Maine. The very first child of Bela and Margaret was Lewis [5] Robbins, who married Nancy Fales. Lewis lived in the upper part of Lincolnville, Maine. I have extracted all that I can find of Lewis and Nancy and their descendants from the Lincolnville Census. In Camden, Maine, when Camden was in Waldo County, the next-door coastal town to Lincolnville, is an Almond Robbins, born circa 1815, who married 21 July 1837 [in Camden by Abram ogier, Justice of the Peace] to Lavinia Decker. The children that I have found for them are: Wilbert L., born 14 March 1843, Harriet E., born 18 Nov. 1846; John Thompson Robbins, born 6 Apr. 1848, and William Theodore Robbins, born 1 Nov. 1852. Now, in the above-named Robbins genealogy is an Almond Gushee Robbins, who only lived two years. With a name like Almond, wouldn't it seem that they were related? There seem to be no proofs that Almond Robbins, born circa 1815 is the son of Lewis and Nancy (Fales) Robbins, yet Lewis was the only Robbins family in Lincolnville. I just tried to contact a Monika Thomas who, I believe, is related to a Winston Thomas and/or Winston Thomas, Jr  of Belfast, abt 1900-1930.  My e-mail bounced. She had posted re a ROBBINS line on World Connect at rootsweb.com in 2001. 
Winston Thomas was a descendant of a Sarah Edna Robbins, abt 1855-1900 of Belfast, who m  Elbridge A Thomas. That Robbins line goes back to a Benjamin Robbins who was an ancestor of  Samuel Robbins, b. abt 1796. I have every reason to believe that my James Robbins (who was the father of  my GG gf, Hezekiah Robbins, b abt 1801 - d aft 1870 Census, but bef  1880 Census, who m Lucretia Morey and lived Deer Isle) may be a bother, cousin, or other relative of  Samuel Robbins, b abt 1796.  There are a number of given names in my Deer Isle family that are the same as those Monika named in the Robbins family of Belfast.

Where are the descendants of  the Samuel Robbins' family that lived around Belfast from bef 1850 - ???  ?

My e-mail program failed because I had overloaded my Inbox and as of now I seem to have lost all my e-mails since about 8  July  2006  -  5  March  2007.  Hopefully, I can find them somewhere and retrieve them.  In the meantime, if we have exchanged any direct emails between last July and this past March 5th, please send me copies if  you still have them. It would be a great help if you could put Robbins and some first name, date, and / or place in the subject line.

While I do have questions about some specific Robbins of the 1750 - 1850 time period, especially finding all the children of my GG gf's (Hezekiah's) father, James Robbins (if I can ever positively identify the correct  James in Census records), and determining for sure who James' father was  (supposedly Benjamin Robbins b 1750 RI),  I need to to find anyone who is working on  ANY   Robbins from Rockland thru (at least) Campobello, NB in the 1750 - 1850 (and hopefully well into the 1900's) time period. We especially need to identify as many parents / siblings, grandparents, Great grandparents, etc for all those Robbins families in the 1850 Census records (including the married females when possible).

I fully believe that if we'd all work cooperatively together, perhaps we can get these families straightened out, organized, compiled, etc. I want to include as many daughters, granddaughters, Great granddaughters, etc. and their descendants as we can possibly identify.

I want to hear from anybody who has or knows of  a Robbins ancestor or other relative, male or female, from 1750 - present, but especially before 1875 anywhere along the Maine coast, islands, or nearby mainland areas from Rockland thru Washington Co and NB, especially around Campobello. This does include the Union Robbins because I believe they are related to at least some of the Deer Isle and other coastal Robbins families.

I would appreciate any names of Robbins researchers who do not use the computer and an address / phone number where I may contact them. I will then see that they have an address / phone number where they can contact me.

I want to get to the library, historical / genealogical resources that are in the coastal area from Rockland  - Washington Co this summer. If you have any recommendations among such sources, please send me the information on who / what, where they are, days / hours open, etc, especially if you know they have any Robbins material.  I am a life member of the Deer Isle - Stonington Historical Society and am aware of their fabulous research room and data.  Meanwhile I'm working on organizing the data re the Robbins in Dr Benjamin Lake Noyes' data for Deer Isle.  There are some conflicting statements re which Robbins line that I would like to be able to resolve for certainty.

Most grateful for any additions, corrections, help in this endeavor.  We do not want to waste our time redoing what has already been done, but rather get our Robbins data  pooled together so we can all help each other.

ROBBINS: I'm looking for the birth record and further info on the parents of Herbert Rufus Robbins, b. 16 Mar or Aug 1914, supposedly in Swanville (Me VR).  He d. 14 May 1952 in Rockland (Me VR) and was the son of Charles and Laura (Richards) Robbins.  I know the Swanville VR have been published to 1892, but obviously 1914 doesn't fall in that book. ROGERS: My GGGrandfather, Atherton Wales Rogers, was born 14 November 1793, in Castine , Maine. He later moved to Lincolnville, Maine and became a Ship's Captain. He is mentioned as "a mariner" in 1815. Captain Rogers sailed the following ships:
                                             Commodore Perry - Sch., built 1814
                                             Samuel & John - Brig., built 1822
                                             Mount Moriah - Sch., built 1832
Captain A. W. Rogers, was lost at sea in 1845. I have read in December. I would like to know if anyone has any records or articles regarding the above ships. I have found that both the Commodore Perry - & the Mount Moriah, were lost in 1845. I believe that the Commodore Perry - was lost off the coast of Deer Isle, Maine. I have written several maritime museums without any success. No one has been able to provide any information on the circumstances of these two wrecks. ROSE/DODGE: Am interested in finding roots of the Waldo County Rose and Dodge families. James R Dodge married Deborah ROSE. Who were her parents? They lived in Islesboro, Waldo Co., Maine. ROSS: In 1853 Hannah Morton married Robert Oxton.  Robert had resided in Montville with a previous wife Lydia and children.  After his first wife's death, his second marriage to Hannah brought him 3 step children by the last name of Ross.  They were Elizabeth Jane Ross, b. 1845, James Ross, b. 1848, and Thomas Ross, b. 1852.  These children are listed as living in the home with them in the 1860 Census in Montville, but after that I am unable to find any records about them. RUSSELL: Nelson Russell was born in Belfast, Maine, 23 Apr 1809 to, I am told, Mary Patterson and Thomas Russell (1727-1803). These dates don't add up. Does anyone have any record of Nelson Russell or Mary Patterson? Dr. Thomas Russell was from Wilton, New Hampshire. RYDER/RIDER:  I am looking for information about an Edward M. Rider (b. abt 1815 in Maine) who married a Susan Rankin.  He is listed in the 1850 census in Frankfort.  His son Clarence Howard Rider was my 2nd great grandfather.  They left Maine between 1864 and 1870 and settled in Wabasha Co. Minnesota.  I am trying to find the names of Edward's parents.  I am fairly certain that Amos Ryder, a Revolutionary War veteran who died in 1830 at age 85 in Hampden was Edward's grandfather.  His father was Amos Ryder as well continuing back to Benjamin and Samuel.  All were from Plymouth, Massachusetts and England before that. Any information about this family would be helpful.   Reply to: Melissa Hartman  20 Jun 09
