Claim of Widow for Service Pension Under Act of July 27, 1892.
To be executed before some officer authorized to administer oaths for general purposes. The official character and signature of any such officer not required by law to use a seal must be certified by the clerk of the proper court, giving dates of beginning and close of official term. State of Mississippi, County of Chickasaw, ss: On this 8th day of Nov., A.D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety two personally appeared before me, a J. W. Morgan a Justice of the peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, Mrs. Lavisa Naron aged about 74 years, a resident of and for the County and State of Miss., who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Samuel Naron, deceased, who was the identical person who served under the name of Samuel Naron, as a Private in the
Company commanded by Captain House, in the Regiment of Ala. Inf., in the Creek War; that her said husband enlisted at Lafayette, Ala., on or about the 16th day of about 1835 for 3 mo's. and served three mo's., and was discharged at Lafayette, Ala.: that he was not otherwise employed in the military or Naval services of the United States.

That at the time of entering the service claimed for, her said husband was 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches in height, with gray eyes, dark hair, dark complexion, by occupation a farmer, and that he was born in the State of Georgia.

That after leaving the service he resided in Tallapoosa Co., Ala., about 2 years, in Chickasaw Co., Miss., about 21 years, near Houston.

That her said husband died in Chickasaw Co., Miss., on the 8th day of March A.D. 1870; that she has not since remarried.

That she is a citizen of the United States, and makes this application for the purpose of obtaining a pension under the provision of the act approved July 27, 1892; and hereby appoints J. W. Smith of Washington D.C., her true and lawful attorney.

That her post-office address is Atlanta, County of Chickasaw, State of Miss.

Also personally appeared J. W. McCluney, aged 69 years, residing in Chickasaw County Miss., and J. E. Dendy aged 45 years, residing in Chickasaw County Miss. persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say that they have known the said Lavisa Naron for 40 years and 35 years, respectively; that they were present and saw her sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, and do believe, from the appearance of said claimant and from their personal acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be; and they further say that they are fully satisfied that she is the person who was the wife of the identical Samuel Naron who rendered the service alleged in the above application (in the company of Captain House, in the regiment of Ala. Inf. in the Creek War), by following-named facts and circumstances: because they live in same county that I do and have been for a long time and I have been acquainted both parties for a good many years and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.

Crawford aged 57 years, a resident of Atlanta in the County of Chickasaw and State of Mississippi well known to me be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:

I was well acquainted with said Samuel Naron and know that he is dead. He died in this County on or about March 08, 1870. I personally knew he died then and there because. I don't remember the exact date but know he is dead, and he died about the time above mentioned. I have known him and family for
40 years. His widow, the claimant, has not remarried since he died. She and I have lived as neighbors and been acquainted ever since her said husbands death. She still bears the name of Naron. My Post Office address is Atlanta Chickasaw County Mississippi. I further declare that I have no interest in said case and am not concerned in its prosecution.

In answer to the question I can only say I don't recollect the exact date but I am about 74 years old, Samuel Naron my husband would have been about 89 years old had he lived until this date. I was raised a orphan and have no record of my birth.

In the matter of the pension claim of Lavisa Naron widow of Samuel Naron - late of the Creek War.

On this 30th day of January A.D. 1893; personally appeared before me J. W. Morgan J.P. in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths, M. H. Duke aged 47 years, a resident of Atlanta in the County of Chickasaw and State of Miss. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:

I was well acquainted with said Samuel Naron and I know of my own personal knowledge that he is dead. He died in this County and State on or about the 8th day of March 1870. I know this to be true because I helped to dress his body and also to bury him.

His widow the said Lavisa, has lived a neighbor to me ever since said Samuel Naron's death. She has not remarried since he died. She still bears the name of Naron.

My Post Office address is Atlanta, Miss. I further declare that I have no interest in said case and am not concerned in its prosecution.

Mrs. Lavisa Naron being duly sworn:

I am the widow of Samuel Naron. Neither he nor I was married until we were married to each other. I was a Miss Roberts. In my girl-hood my first name, Lavisa, was shortened or nicknamed by my friends into "Visy" - which will explain why it is written "Visey" in the record of my marriage.

The said Samuel Naron never rendered any military or naval service to the United States except that in the Creek War in Capt. House's Company.

As to whether he ever applied for or received a land warrant, its date and No. __, where he reside when he so applied and through what attorney he so applied, all I know is as follows: __ Samuel Naron has never applied for nor received a Land Warrant.

As to whether said Samuel Naron could write, and if I could, whether I can now furnish a specimen of his writing I have to say: __ Samuel Naron could not write.

He never applied for pension nor did I until I filed the claim I now have
filled. __ No. 2783.

I have to request that you will please furnish a statement of the service of Samuel Naron who it is alledged enlisted April 16, 1835, in Captain House's Company of ala. Vols. and was discharged _____ -, 18 __.

Please furnish such information as will show whether the soldier served as a substitute for James Murphy - 30 days at the seat of the Florida or Creek War also place and date of enlistment and discharge.

A report dated Land Office Dec 10th 1851 says, "Service from 2nd June to 1st Sept 1836" and a report dated Land Office Sept 4 - 1856 says James Murphy - on House's rolls from 2nd to 1st Sept 1836. Naron not on rolls.
