Billings County ND Queries 1998-2003

WALLEN GUSTAVSON
Beverly Sallee 5 Oct 2003
My grandfather, Albert Claude (Gustavson) Wallen immigrated from Brismene at the age of 25. He was born in 1873. He ultimately was a shoemaker in Minneapolis and raised his family there. He left Europe from Liverpool, but I do not know as yet the name of the ship that he came over on. I visited Sweden in 1999 and saw the land where the backstuga stood whee he lived. It was quie an emotinal experience for me. I made two subsequent trips in 2000 and 2001 and met many relatives, most of them being third cousins. It was a wonderful experience. My grandfather lived in Hendrickson, Dawson and Boyd, all in the western part of Mn. My mother, his first child was born in Hendrickson and her name was Hilda Wallen. I met and received alot of information from Arne Strang. He is a wonderful man and very active as a geneologist for the area around Brismene. He also took me to Eggvena where my great grandmother immigrated from. I don't know if you think I could be of help to you or offer any information, but I would be happy to hear from you. 1897 was the year my grandfather immigrated from Brismene.
At some time in his life, he changed his name to Wallen rather than Gustavson. (He was illigtimate.)

STROPE
Judith Runestad 15 March 2000
I am searching for information about two men names William Strope who appear on the Billings Co., ND 1880 Census Index, pages, 054 and 067. If anyone has access to the census, I would really appreciate any information given on the census, such as place of birth, age, etc. relating to these men and their families. In exchange, I would be happy to do some "looking up" in the Central Iowa area. Judith Runestad
PESCHECK
Linda Pesheck 22 March 1999
Posting a query on relatives I believe settled outside of Medora in early 1900s. They had a cattle ranch, Little Missouri River ran through it, a lot of land, star and crescent brand for cattle. Should have been under the name of WINIFRED (SCOTT) Pescheck, married to EVA DELL (VAN VLECK) PESHECK. He probably died around 1950-51. Both should be buried near Medora. We are unable to locate any history and he is our grandfather. They had three children: EVERETTE, FERN, and JOHN PESHECK - all three children now deceased too. Thank you, Linda Pesheck.
VITBRO
Karen Savage 5 Oct 1998
I am looking for the offsprings of Earnest VITBRO who applied for naturalization 10/20/1908 in Billings, ND. He was born in Norway in 1882 and married an ESSIE. Children may be MILTON who died as an infant, MIRIAN, CAOLINE, and VERNON. I believe some of these children were adopted.

ROZELL
Holland 22 August 1998
I would like any information you have on a man called "old man ROZELL." I do not know his first name. I have read that he at one time owned a motel or hotel in Medora, ND, at the time or shortly after Teddy Roosevelt was there. I would like to know his full name and date of birth and death if possible. Also, where he was born.
Bill 22 July 1998
Hi. There was a Post Office with a cancellation mark of Brenizer, ND in the vicinity of Beach, ND in the past. I have heard that one of my great uncles, Hugh Brenizer, was the postmaster. I am seeking information on both. Thanks, Bill

Alwina Bane My grandparents homesteaded just outside Medora in 1900. I am researching BROWN & THOMMEN. I have quite a bit of information from these families.

ROHLOFF
Irohloff
Am looking for information on my father-in-law who we've been told worked on the Elkhorn Ranch which belonged to Teddy Roosevelt. Also that Mr. Roosevelt gave each employee a special "engraved" gun one year. I wonder if there are any ranch records available that would show the purchase of such guns or of employees he had. MR. ROHLOFF was born 13 Feb. 1863 in Germany. He would have been about 21-23 years old when working for Mr. Roosevelt. Thanks.
MEYER
Carole Meyer
I am looking for information on Joseph and/or Leonard Meyer. They were born in Aurora, IL and lived near Sentinel Butte around the turn of the century. Joe Meyer was the father of Josephine Meyer Wojahn. Are there any indexes for the censuses? Thanks. Carole Meyer
