In 1886, Albert Kandelin left Neder Kalix, Norrbotten, Sweden with a destination listed as Fargo. He stayed l year, and returned to Sweden in 1887, and then back to the USA in 1888. It is said he worked on the rai lroad. What was the route to Fargo after they crossed the Atlantic Ocean? Some say people went through Canada and the Great Lakes for the mid-west, but I am at a loss how they did this. Was a railroad fom the Eastern shore available in 1886? Does anyone know how the people worked and lived when working on the railroad, and if there are any records to find for the workers? How far had the railroad line extended in ND by 1886? Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you. Doris
