In 1873 Wallette County in Dakota territory was created, which
included present day Divide County. In 1883 Wallette County was divided
into Buford and Flannery counties. In 1891 they became Williams County.
In 1910 Divide county was carved from the northern portion of Williams
County. Divide County is located in the far northwestern corner of North
Dakota along the Canadian border.
The County seat is Crosby, named for S.A. Crosby of
Portal, who first plotted the townsite.
