ORRIS OLIVER BERG

Orris was born to Ole Andreas and Caroline Rebecca Wibe Berg on 6 January 1919 in Dunn Center who had been married in Clay County, Minnesota on 8 April 1903. His known siblings included: Amanda, Alvin (1905), Carl, Anton, Bernie, Mildred, Alice, Raymond (1918), Wilbur, and Helen.
Orris entered the U. S. Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota during World War II on 29 June 1942. He was in the European African Middle Eastern Theater while serving in Company B, 47th Infantry Regiment of the 9th Infantry Division. He was killed in action on Normandy Beach, France on 25 June 1944. He had attained the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

THORVALD BRENDEN

Thorvald was born on 11 September 1894 in Kerkhoven, Swift County, Minnesota to Torgrim and Christene Brenden. His ancestry was of Norwegian and Swedish parents. He had at least these siblings: Mable, Walter, Blanche, and Leroy. The family was at different places; Chippewa and Grant Counties in Minnesota and then by 1917, Thorvald was driving a truck in Dunn Center for Ingvold Holt.
On 17 June 1917, Thorvald enlisted as a Private at Dickinson, Stark County into Company K, 1st Infantry, North Dakota National Guard where he served until 8 January 1918. He also served in Company K, 164th Infantry, then Machine Gun Company, 16th Infantry to his death. He served overseas from 15 December 1917 to his death when he was killed in action on 10 May 1918.
