JOHANNES (JOHN) OLSEN KYSETH

John was born on 29 March 1840 in Norway. Prior to his immigration he was married to Marte Marie in Norway and it's possible there were children born to them and remained in Norway or records do not connect them to John and Marte. John, Marte and children Oleane and Olga arrived on 23 June 1883 in New York on the ship Donau. In 1885 they are in Norman County and one year old Karl is part of the family. John declared his intentions to become a naturalized citizen on 10 April 1884 and again on 8 June 1885.
The family is established in Dunn County prior to 1900. John is a recorded landowner on 28 November 1892 in Township 142, Range 92, Section 12 and later was on Section 11 and Township 143, Range 92, Section 25 which was later owned by son Karl. Daughter Oleane and son-in-law Henry Madson owned also in Township 142, Range 92, Section 12. The Kyseth family in addition to large numbers of Kyseth extended family members owned several parcels of land.
John became Postmaster of Marshall on 24 July 1901. Many of the Kyseth family are buried at Kyseth Memorial Cemetery located in the same section as the Kyseth homestead.
