REEMS FAMILY

Three Reems brothers resided in Dunn County after arriving here from Minnesota prior to 1910. Two of these brothers John V. and William L. were in the same Company in the Civil War. The third brother, Joseph A., was patriarch to almost all of the Reems family in Dunn County.
The brothers came from a large family of Samuel and Nancy Dorsey (b. 1814 Virginia) Reems having arrived in Minnesota in 1854 after living in Pennsylvania and Virginia (West Virginia). They were married in Nicholas County, Virginia (West Virginia) on 1 March 1827. Their children included, at least: Catherine (1830), Virginia (1831), George (1832), James, Mary (1840 - Mrs. Albert Lewis), John, William, Stockton, Joseph, Sarah Elizabeth (1849), and Eusepirus/Eusebrus (1854).
Of the three brothers in Dunn County, John V. was the oldest and arrived in Dunn County around 1906 with his brother Joseph. John was born on 2 November 1841 in Virginia. He enlisted into the Civil War from Franklin, Wright County, Minnesota on 10 November 1862 and was discharged with his Regiment on 24 August 1865 at Fort Snelling in Hennepin County, Minnesota. He served in Company B, 9th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment. In 1910 the census indicates John is single and in 1920 is widowed but this writer can find no record of a marriage for John. William L. arrived in Dunn County a couple of years after John and Joseph. He too settled in the Oakdale area. William was born in 1844. William enlisted with John into the Civil War with Company B, 9th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment. William was married twice. First to Mary who died in Minnesota on 9 June 1877. They had one son Benjamin and one daughter, Clara M. who died in infancy. He then married Anna A. Nye in Wright County, Minnesota on 1 January 1879. Their children included: Delilah (1880), Clara, William, and Maude. William did not remain in Dunn County and returned to Minnesota before 1930. William's Burial. Mary's Burial. Anna's Burial.
Joseph A. brought most of his family with him to Dunn County from Minnesota. Joseph was born on 20 September 1849 in Virginia. He married Mary Richner. They had at least these children: Alfred Joseph, William Samuel, Emma, Alwilda, Mary, Mable, Millie, and Leroy.
The Dunn County history book, Dauntlas Dunn 1970 has two lengthy articles about the Oakdale area on two of Joseph's children; Sam, and Mable.
