DELBERT BENJAMIN VAN ALLEN


Delbert was born in July 1892 to Charles and Maggie Zeigler VanAllen (Van Allen). His birth place is reported to be in three different places in current records. His siblings include: Ethel (1893), Ora (1898), Clifford (1901), Clarence (1903), Irene (1905), and Dorothy (1912).

Army number 2,787,702; registrant, Emmons county; born, Rock Rapids, Minn [Sic] Iowa., July 22, 1893, of (nationality of parents not given); occupation, farmer; inducted at Linton on May 25, 1918; sent to Camp Lewis, Wash; served in 17th Company, 5th Battalion, 166th Depot Brigade, to June 20, 1918; Company H, 362nd Infantry, to death; overseas from July 6, 1918, to death. Engagements: Offensive: Meuse—Argonne. Defensive Sector: Aubreville (Lorraine). Killed in action on Sept. 29, 1918; Buried, Grave 32, Row 23, Block E. Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, R0magne—sous-Montfaucon, Meuse, France."

PETER VENEKLAASEN


His surname is also recorded as Veneklasen. Peter, sometimes given as Peterus and Pieter, was born 12 October 1844 in the Netherlands.
He enlisted as a Private in Company I, 25th Michigan Infantry Regiment on 23 September 1862 from Holland, Michigan and was mustered out on 25 August 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky. He is in Emmons County census reports in 1885 and 1890. Peter died in Michigan on 22 December 1902 and is buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan.
