Mrs. William (Dena) Compaan, 93, of Holland, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1996, and by a son-in-law, Robert Barker, in 2002. She was a member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church, and a former member of Hull Christian Reformed Church, Hull, N.D. She taught elementary school in Hull, and in West Ottawa Public Schools. Surviving are her children, Pearl Compaan of Cincinnati, Alvin and Mary Compaan of Toledo, Ohio, Arlo and Rena Compaan of Frankfort, Ill., and La-Vyla Kay Barker of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; in-laws, Mrs. Gerrit (Gertrude) De Jong, Mrs. Henry (Bessie) Van Soest, both of South Dakota, Edward and Pearl Compaan of Grand Rapids, and Gilmer and Helen Compaan of Kentwood. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 11 E. 32nd St., with the Revs. Peter Borgdorff and Douglas Fauble officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visiting is one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Holland Christian Schools or the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Funeral Chapel.
