GIMBEL, Heinrich

Gimbel, Heinrich 1863-1944 - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, in Hazelton for Heinrich Gimbel, 80, Hazelton, who died Sunday (May 21) at the Old Peoples’ home in Arthur ND. Rev. G. A. Ehlert will officiate at the rites which will be held in the Lutheran church. Burial will be made in the Gimbel cemetery. Mr. Gimbel donated the land for the cemetery which now bears his name. Old friends from the Hazelton community will serve as pallbearers.
Born, July 7, 1863, in Odessa, South Russia, he was married there to KATHERINE ZIEGLER in 1887. He came to the US in 1905, settling in South Dakota. He later came to Emmons county in North Dakota and homesteaded 12 miles west of Hazelton, where he made his home until 5 years ago when he went to Arthur.
His wife preceded him in death in July, 1942. Eleven children were born to them. A son died in 1938. Ten of the children, 7 sons and 3 daughters, are living. His sons are Henry in California, Ludwig of Mound City SD; Theophiel of Braddock, Theodore who is in the armed forces, and Julius, John and Jake, all of Hazelton. His daughters are Mrs. John Ackerman, Hazelton, Mrs. Henry Brickle of Mott and Mrs. George Dockter, Jr., of Linton. He leaves one sister, Mrs. William Simbelman of Missoula MT.
He was a member of the Lutheran church. The body is at the Calnan funeral home and will be taken Friday to Hazelton for services and burial. Bismarck Tribune, Wednesday 24 May 1944
