CARL 'CHARLES' JOHAN ABRAHAMSON

Charles was born on 9 October 1848 in Nynygget, Vastra Gotaland, Sweden.
One census record indicates he immigrated to America in 1882 and another indicates 1884. He was in McHenry County by 1886. On 26 March 1887 he married Sophia Arveson, of Bottineau County, at the Tower Place in Devils Lake. Sophia was born on 28 April 1868 in Norway and immigrated to America in 1882.
Charles and Sophia had five children; Olga, Agda, Lydia, Clark, and Carl John.
Although Charles' original land patent on 21 November 1888 was for Section 21 in Newport Township [T156 R76] he eventually extended his ranch to include Sections 11, 19, 20, and 22 which he sold in 1917 and retired to Towner.
Sophia died while in Wisconsin on 3 January 1907 and Charles died in Towner on 4 February 1922.

NERI ALEXSON

Some of the information below is digested from the McHenry County, 1885-1895 History.
History records show a variety of spellings for Neri. Given name: Neri, Nere, Nera. Surname: Aslagsen, Alexson, Axelson, Aslexson, Aslackson, Alackson, Alakson. All of which makes research more difficult.
Neri was born on 23 March 1835 to Aslag and Margit Nerisdr Olsen in Norway. He was baptized in Rauland, Telemark, Norway. The 1900 census records he immigrated in 1858 and that his marriage was in 1870.
Neri was a veteran of the Civil War having served as a Private in Company G 8th Regiment Minnesota Volunteer Infantry from 8 March to 19 July 1865. His service records have his surname as Alackson and Alakson and only the initial N. He started receiving his pension in November 1890 and his wife started receiving a widow's pension on 21 June 1906.
Neri and Rachel Groven were married in 1870/1 near Northfield, Dakota County, Minnesota. Rachel was born 14 April 1843 to Ole and Anna Groven in Ovre, Telemark, Norway. In 1880 the Nere Aslackson family is living in Eureka, Dakota County, Minnesota; the family includes Neri, Rachel, Margit (Mary), Olianna (Anna), Antoneta (Nettie), and Lena.
In about 1886 the family moved to McPherson County, South Dakota. From there they moved to a farm in Dickey County, North Dakota.
By 1900, the family is increased with Dena, Jennie, Alfred, and Nellie and they were living in Schiller Township, McHenry County. The 1900 census records indicate Rachel immigrated in 1868 and that they had eight children of which seven are surviving. By 1907 daughters Dena and Lena have land patents for separate homesteads in Lebanon Township. The Alexsons also lived in Balfour for eight years. After the death of Mr. Alexson in 1906, Mrs. Alexson lived with two of her daughters, Dena and Anna who owned and operated the Guthrie Hotel.

HARLAND PAGE ALLEN

Many records have his given name as Harlan. He was born on 28 January 1843 in New York to Dennis Sidney and Eleanor J. Wagner Allen.
Harland enlisted as a Private on 13 August 1861 for the Civil War when a resident of Red Rock, Marion County, Iowa. On 4 September 1861 he mustered into Company E, Iowa 8th Infantry and then on 13 March 1864 he transferred into the Veteran Reserve Corps. He mustered out on 3 September 1864. On 6 April 1862 Harland was wounded in the thigh at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee and then taken prisoner. No record could be found on his time in prison or his release. He started receiving a pension on 28 July 1877 and his wife started receiving a widow's pension on 29 June 1906.
Harland married Jemina "Jane" Young on 3 July 1869 in Marion County, Iowa.
The Allen family arrived in McHenry County before 1890 as Harlan is in the county Veterans Census. On 7 February 1893 they had a land patent for Section 19 in Lake Hester Township and Section 24 in Lebanon Township (adjoining sections). By 1900 Census the family was back in Iowa.

ANDREW JUDSON AMES



Because there is a large amount of information available on the life of Judge Andrew Judson Ames, and his family, what is provided herein is minimal but it does contain the initial links to the information. From that information there are more links to additional information on the family. Andrew was born in New York, served with distinction in the Civil War, married twice with several children and served in the McHenry County community.
