HERMANSON GUBBERUD GUBANSON
Submitter: Lynnette W. McMahon
Date: 25 Sep 2001
Looking for information Hans Jacob HERMANSON who I believe homesteaded around Lisbon (Ransom Co, ND) and also worked a big farm owned by Hiland Stanford (Stanford University) and Hans managed the farm for an undisclosed amount of time.
Hans Jacob HERMANSON
b. Oslo, Norway (one of 5 children who all immigrated to America around 1840's)
d. unknown (after 1912) - killed by lightning
My great-grandfather (Hans son Edward) reminisces about his boyhood farm in northern Minnesota. Edward wrote about his youth that was spent in and around the state of Minnesota and North Dakota where his father had a homestead in the town of Liston (believe this to be Lisbon, ND). After staking their claim, the family moved on to a big farm owned by Hiland Stanford (Stanford University) and Hans managed the farm for an undisclosed amount of time. Edward wrote that his father was somewhat of a rover, so they then moved on to another farm, called the Lien Farm in Halstead, MN. It was located along the Red River of the North.
Kjersti (Kjerste) GUBBERUD (Gubanson in some docs)
b. Fillmore county, MN (needs verification)
d. age 90
Hans Jacob and Kjerste HERMANSON had the following children:
1 - Edward Almer (Albert in some docs) HERMANSON: Born on 7 Jan 1890 in Halstad, Minnesota. Edward died in Encino, Los Angeles Co., CA on 15 Oct 1971, he was 81. bought a newspaper in Plumer (Plumber), Minnesota. Later became Post Master of that town as well as Deputy Sheriff. The Family moved to St. Bonifacius, MN and Edward bought a paper there around 1914. Sometime before 1917 the family moved to Minneapolis, where Edward went to work for the Minneapolis Tribune. Edward married on 14 Dec 1911 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, Pennington County, MN to Marie Emily VEILLEUX (b.1890 in Bangor, Maine) Edward and Marie moved their family to California in 1923.
The info I have on Edward's siblings is sketchy - it comes from written stories from Edward (my great-grandfather and his daughter/my grandmother Celeste)
2 - Henry: Henry died of pneumonia while in WWI Boot Camp.
3 - Laurance:
4 - Belle: (never married)
