LOUIS CHARLES KELLY

Louis was born on 8 January 1933 in Sioux County to Charles C. and Josephine Gates Kelly. His siblings include: Helen (1923), Elsie, Susan (1925), Margaret/Theodora (1927), Calvin (1928), Terrance (1929), and Patrick (1930).
Louis joined the U. S. Army from Sioux County. At the time of his death he was a Private First Class serving as a Light Weapons Infantryman in L Company, 3rd Battalion of the 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was killed in action in the Kumhwa Battle Zone near Kumsong Area, North Korea on 15 October 1951. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. the Purple Heart.
