Winfield Vermillion Died At Pollock Tuesday Last Week

Tuesday evening, March 13th, at 8 o'clock, Winfield Vermillion one of the old pioneers of this section, passed away at his home in Pollock after a lingering illness caused by heart trouble from which he has been suffering for about two years, the last few months being bedfast and almost helpless.
Mr. Vermillion was 72 years of age having been born in the state of Indiana in 1856. He followed the life of a soldier for five years, enlisting in the 6th U. S. Infantry in 1876 and for some time was stationed at old Fort Lincoln near Mandan where the soldiers took more or less part in the Indian uprising when Sitting Bull was in the height of his power.
In 1881 he was discharged from the army with an excellent record, and three years later married Mary McEldery in the Glanavan country where they lived on a homestead for many years. They had nine children, four of whom survive him.
Later they moved across the river and located near Kenel where he engaged in ranching, moving to Pollock three years ago to spend his declining years. He purchasedd the property in the north part of town where he lived until death came to relieve his sufferings.
Funeral services where held Thursday, interment being made in the Kenel cemetery where he was laid to rest beside his wife who preceded him in death several years ago.
